Dream School

1,500 children following their dreams

At Dream School, children from vulnerable backgrounds in Bangladesh can catch up on basic skills, ready to rejoin mainstream schools.

Why does Bangladesh need schools?

In Bangladesh, many families are trapped in a cycle of poverty. Children are compelled to work or marry instead of attending school, so they don’t fulfil their potential – and then they get stuck in unskilled or poorly-paid employment.

Education is vital to help the next generation break free from this cycle.

With help from our local partners, we have developed Dream Schools. These are simple, basic schools operating from the slums of Sylhet. They will transform the quality of life, and create exciting new opportunities, for hundreds of children.

Why Sylhet?

Sylhet is a densely-populated city in Bangladesh, with several slums and thousands of people living under the poverty line. In the city slums, education, equality and hygiene are key problems. In Sylhet, the literacy rate hovers at about 67% – much lower than the national average.

How will we help?

Each Dream School seats 50 children. Our qualified staff are working hard to teach them core skills in preparation to rejoin mainstream schooling. So far, we’ve established 30 schools – caring for 1,500 children.

On each site, we are also providing free health services and medicine. This means that the children are secure, healthy, and able to attend without incurring costs to their families.

Now we want to expand this programme and set up more Dream Schools in different parts of Sylhet and Bangladesh.
