Implementing Community Iftars

About community iftars
  • The concept of community iftars is to provide a nutritious complete meal for the vulnerable.
  • The meal will consist of a main dish, water and fruit or dates. An example meal would be rice and chicken, water and dates or a culturally appropriate meal based on the country.
  • Each community iftar caters for between 100-125 people (depending on the agreement).
  • You will be required to send us a video on a daily basis for each iftar.

Introduction Meeting

In this meeting, Salam Charity will…

  • Look at the required number of iftars
  • Explain our invoicing process
  • Talk about our locations and beneficiaries
  • Explain what we mean by "required promotional designs" — these could include Salam Charity branded banners, roll up banners, stickers. We will also explain how to use the Salam Charity branding on clothing

Please note: You are required to print these designs and use them for the community iftars. The cost of these promotional materials is calculated within the iftar budget.

Daily Order Check

The following steps is crucial to ensure the project runs smoothly

  • Access your Horizon account and navigate to ‘View All Projects’ under Iftar Project Operations.
  • Here, you'll find all the orders placed for iftars, along with the ‘Pray For’ name and the quantity of iftars required.
  • It's crucial to note that when fulfilling these orders, you should begin from the last page and progress upwards to page 1 to prioritise completing the earliest orders first.
  • Check this daily to monitor incoming orders and determine the appropriate number of iftars to complete each day, ensuring all orders are fulfilled by the end of Ramadan.

Organising The Community Iftar

The following activities are essential:

  • Identify the 100-125 beneficiaries on a daily basis.
  • Invite these beneficiaries to the community iftar, remembering to send the time, date and location.
  • On the day of the iftar, seat the people in an organised manner ensuring no pushing or shoving.
  • Serve the hot meals to the people.
  • Please ensure that the approved Salam Charity banner and roll up are visible at the location of the community iftar.

Dua Name List

The following activities must take place:

  • Send the name of the donor to the imam. For example, "Ali Hussain"
  • This must be one name per day unless asked to do more than one iftar per day by Salam Charity.

30 Second Video Of Imam

The following activities are essential:

  • Once the people have been seated and the hot meals have been distributed, the volunteer must take a video of the imam thanking the donor, saying the dua in front of the 100-125 people.
  • It is essential to feature as many of the people/beneficiaries as possible. The Salam Charity branding must be visible at some point during the video.
  • This can be a phone video, no need for a professional camera.
  • Message example: “Thank you to Ali Hussain for donating to this iftar. May Allah bless you for your kindness and generosity and accept your wishes.”

Daily Video Delivery

The following activities are essential:

  • Send the video (should not be more than 30 seconds) on a daily basis via WhatsApp to the SC focal point with the name of the donor.
  • In addition, send a link of the video using Salam Charity's Horizon system.
  • Always ensure all uploading has been completed and that the video link has been sent..
Things to remember
  • The community iftars will happen everyday for the agreed number of days.
  • Depending on our fundraising, we may request for more than one iftar per day. The Salam Charity focal point will discuss this with you.
  • Any iftars organised or added beyond the agreement will be paid for after Ramadan.
  • If Salam Charity should request more than one iftar per day, then ideally, each iftar should be located in a unique location. If this is not possible, then the IP can increase the number of beneficiaries in the same location, but send two separate videos for accountability and transparency.
  • Rolls ups and banners must be present during each iftar. The team implementing the iftar must wear Salam Charity vests or shirts.
  • Videos and media will need to be sent immediately after each iftar via WhatsApp and Google drive link.
  • It is essential that the IP sends daily videos, this allows Salam Charity to update the donors.
  • We may request professional pictures and videos (2-4 times throughout the month only). We will let you know when this is required (cost will be separate from the iftar budget).
