Qurbani 2021

Qurbani 2021

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (as). For every hair of the Qurbani you receive a reward from Allah (swt)’. [Tirmidhi]

Thanks to your support and generosity, this year Salam Charity have been able to provide over 4,000 families with meat. This amounts to almost 23,000 people having enough meat to cover 183,800 meals.

Your Qurbani has reached some of the most vulnerable people around the world, from war-torn Yemen and Gaza, to countries suffering from extreme poverty such as Lebanon and areas of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Ghana.

In Bangladesh, over 20% of the population live below the poverty line. This increases to 35% in rural areas. The cost of meat is on average, 32% higher than the global average, meaning this is a luxury many cannot afford. With your support, over 1,000 families were reached in some of the poorest parts of the country.

Meanwhile in Lebanon, an economic crash has driven nearly half of Lebanon’s six million people into poverty. Basic food items now cost more than ten times the amount they did in 2019. With growing unemployment, food prices rocketing and shortages across the country, many Lebanese families, including their refugee population, are suffering. Meat is a food item many simply cannot afford. Your Qurbani donations have meant over 900 families will now be able to eat meat for the first time in weeks (in some cases, months or years) on the days of Eid.

We also want to take a moment to mention Yemen. Currently in the midst of a civil war, and going through one of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis of our time, over 16 million people are food insecure. A recent survey by the World Food Programme showed that almost one third of families have gaps in their diets, and hardly ever consume foods like meat. Your kind donations have filled these gaps for an astonishing 1,700 families (that’s over 8,000 individuals), with enough meat to cover over 66,000 meals, lasting from Eid Al-Adha and beyond.

You can continue to support the people of Lebanon and Yemen by supporting our Food Parcels project, which provides a family of five with enough food to last them 30 days. The parcels generally consist of staple food products and essentials including rice, flour, sugar and oil, which families struggle to afford.

This Eid Al-Adha, our donors have brought much needed relief to more families than ever before. We pray our Qurbani sacrifice is accepted, and on behalf of everyone at Salam Charity, we thank you for placing your trust in us to carry out your Qurbanis. Together, we can make an even bigger difference.

If you’d like to get involved in continuing to support beneficiaires in any of the countries above, please consider contributing to one of our current appeals, or setting up a regular donation with us today.
